... to provide inclusive and mainstream jobs based at the Colmworth Craft Centre for both youngsters (in transition from education to employment) and adults, who have learning disabilities and autistic spectrum conditions.
As a result, they will feel more self-fulfilled and less stressed, as will their families and carers. There will be less pressure on local authority budgets (A tale in the life of...).
Our inclusive workforce will:
The key is a network of successful arts & crafts businesses. We impart business/entrepreneurial skills to capable artists and crafters, some of whom will then outsource tasks to the Colmworth workforce once they are in a position to do so (Business startups).
As arts and crafts are not for everyone we will also:
- undertake computer services contracts – extracting, formatting and reformatting
-
engage with Autism Bedfordshire and Livability (a national charity) to enable people with learning disabilities/autism to find jobs in, for example, services, retailing, horticulture, catering, or in rewarding community activities in and around Bedford.

Our aim: a craft workforce to include people with learning disabilities / autism.
There are a few ways to help.

|
Social enterprises are not for profit but cannot run on air – we have already raised some funds, and we're seeking further grants, donations and commissioned work (Will you help?).
In addition to outsourcing work, we will provide a package of craft business services for a subscription – including enquiry and research resources, a newsletter, an upcoming events list and advantageous terms on other activities. We will also gain some income from commissions on sales of arts and craft products through online media – including our own online shop, Craft Arcadia (in development) – and TV shopping channels.
In the future, we may relocate, either to Bromham Mill or Central Bedfordshire.
